Eduroam

Eduroam (which stands for Educational Roaming) is a wireless worldwide infrastructure that allows mobility among its connected institutions.

It consists of a single space that interconnects multiple institutions. It’s based on a common usage policy, as well as technical and functional requirements, that it allows inter-institutional roaming.

Being part of eduroam allows users visiting another institution connected to eduroam to log on to the WLAN using the same credentials (username and password) the user would use if he were at his home institution.

Eduroam.es is an initiative included in the RedIRIS project that coordinates organizational initiatives in order to offer a single space for mobility in Spain.

As from February 2007, the WLAN of the University of Balearic Islands (from now on UIB) belongs to the international initiative eduroam. The eduroam network at the UIB is designated to users that are not members of the UIB but belong to some institution joined to the project.
